Every once in a while, conservatives mount this anti-immigration hobbyhorse in the hopes of racing across the polling finish line at the expense of the most vulnerable in our communities (refugees). Presumably, they hope that insecure Canadians will believe their lives can be improved by making the lives of others harder.

Canadian immigration policy is designed to bring in the mix of skills that Canada requires to sustain its economy (and its tax base). As Boomers age out of the workforce, Canada's tax base will shrink and our cost of social services will expand. Without working age immigrants, we will quickly exhaust our ability to maintain the standard of living that Canadians currently enjoy.

As a bonus, we get this benefit with lower rates of criminality than we have in the Canadian-born population.

It is self-destructive to be anti-immigration. Canada NEEDS immigrants. 🇨🇦
